I've been buying ink for my typewriters through both E-bay and Amazon, and although they came from different vendors, all of them used some sort of synthetic material (nylon, perhaps). They are functional, but I thought that in the past the ink was darker. I remembered that typewriter ribbons used to be make of silk. I found Ribbons Unlimited through recommendations from others, so I thought that I would give it a try. I tried it on my Olympia SM-9, re-spooled it onto metal spools, and went to work. It was definitely darker and felt more like an old time ribbon. If you are curious or want to have darker letters, I would recommend giving silk a try.
